For the last decade Academia Rossica has been building cultural relations and establishing an artistic synthesis between Russia and the West. As a London-based arts organisation, Academia Rossica has pioneered inter-cultural projects in every field; from contemporary art and music to literature and film. Acting as a central anchor for those interested in Russian culture in the UK, Academia Rossica has been pivotal in making Russia closer and more inviting, as a place or even an ethos, for many of its members and supporters.

Academia Rossica publishes a high-quality arts journal, Rossica, which has already covered such diverse topics as contemporary Russian writing, the story and collection of the Moscow Tretyakov Gallery, and the disappearing architectural heritage of Moscow, providing a unique insight into both Russia’s enigmatic history and its latest cultural events and developments.

Since 2008 Academia Rossica has been running a programme of outstanding cultural events, including KinoKlub and the Russian Film Festival, as well as providing a unique platform for intellectual exchange between Russia and the UK through the Books From Russia stand at the London Book Fair and at BookExpo America. Academia Rossica has invited key contemporary Russian writers and critics for an extensive programme of seminars and discussions during Academia Rossica’s Russian Literature Week launched in 2008, which has now grown into SLOVO Russian Literature Festival.

In 2005 Academia Rossica with support of the B.Yeltsin Presidential Centre and the Russky Mir Foundation established the Rossica Prize for the best literary translation from Russian into English in order to raise the profile of literary translation. The Rossica Young Translators Award was later set up alongside the Rossica Prize in 2009 for those under the age of 25.

Academia Rossica has already introduced many leading contemporary Russian artists to UK audiences, both through the acclaimed Moscow Breakthrough exhibition, and to key British curators through professional research programmes.

We encourage you to look through our project pages to find out more about up-coming events, and even to become an active member in the work of Academia Rossica.

ACADEMIA ROSSICA is UK Registered Charity No 1091022.
