Many congratulations to Vladimir Sorokin!
Today it was announced that he is a finalist in of one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the world - the Man Booker International Prize! Vladimir Sorokin is one of the greatest living Russian writers and is always challenging stereotypes and social conventions with his work, leading the avant garde in contemporary Russian literature, from his hugely popular Ice Trilogy to the almost prophetic dystopian novel ‘Day of the Oprichnik’. Both highly charismatic and enigmatic, Sorokin has won numerous high-profile literary awards in Russia, including the People’s Booker Prize and the Andrei Bely Prize. Sorokin definitely deserves this £60,000 prize and the worldwide acclaim that comes with it. The Man Booker International Prize is unique in the way it is chosen solely by a panel of renowned judges, not by submissions. The announcement of the winner will take place in London on 22 May. Good luck Vladimir!
