Rossica 19: 100 years of Russian cinemaA special issue of Rossica Journal will be published to accompany the 2nd Russian Film Festival and to mark the Centenary of Russian cinema.
If 'Russia is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma', can cinema act as a key to unravelling this enigma?
The overarching theme of this issue is a comparison of how Russia perceives itself, and its cinema, and how it is perceived by the West. It is a well known fact that the same events and works of art are seen in Russia itself, and by the West, as bearing different, sometimes opposite meanings.
