2nd Russian-British Co-Production and Distribution
8 November, Thursday
Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, UK
Building on the success of the inaugural Russo-British Co-production Forum last year, the Cinema Fund and British Film Institute in collaboration with Academia Rossica were pleased to hold another meeting of leading Russian and British filmmakers as part of the Russian Film Festival. Held in the spacious modern setting of the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), producers and filmmakers from both countries met together for a day of panel discussions, presentations and networking.
The aim of this day was to explore opportunities of creative collaboration and partnership between leading film industry figures of both countries. Russia’s foremost film production companies, including CTB, Metronom Film, Khorosho Production, RUmedia and others, presented their new projects to key UK film industry members for future coproduction.
These projects were preceded by a presentation by Elena Romanova, Head of the International Department of the Russian Cinema Fund, on the opportunities for international collaboration offered by the Cinema Fund’s extensive co-production programme. Isabel Davis, Head International Department of the BFI Film Fund chaired discussion from the UK side.
While the presentations on financing co-productions between Russia and the UK provided much food for thought for those exploring potential collaborative projects, it was during the smaller scale afternoon discussions that the contacts were made which will undoubtedly lead to many fruitful further discussions and hopefully eventual productions.
