Alexander Lebedev
biography
Born in Moscow in 1959. Mr. Lebedev's career commenced in 1977 at the Russian Academy of Sciences, after which he spent several years as a diplomat, being posted to Russia's Embassy to the UK as both Third and subsequently Second Secretary. He then entered the banking sphere and founded the Russian Investment Company in 1992. After that he joined the board of Imperial Bank, and in 1995 became the head of the National Reserve Bank - a small but challenging financial structure at that time. In less than a year Mr. Lebedev's management moved the bank into the line of Russia's strongest and most sustainable banking businesses.
In year 2000 Alexander Lebedev initiated launch of the National Investment Council - a body independent from government authority and unaffected by political ideology. Council's major task was and remains promoting Russia's integration into world's economic system. Since Council's foundation in 2000 Mr. Lebedev has been its President. Dr Lebedev holds a Doctor of Economics degree. In 2003 Alexander Lebedev was elected to the lower chamber of Russia's Parliament - State Duma. Until 2007 he was deputy chairman of the Committee for CIS affairs and links with nationals. Now he is the Chairman of the Board of directors of the National Reserve Corporation. He is also the President of the International Institute of Global Development (IIGD) and the President of the Charity Reserve Foundation.
