biography
Hans is a film historian and theorist who specialises in Russian, Eastern and Central European cinema and has numerous publications to his name. He is a long time collaborator with the Berlin, Venice and Montréal, Oberhausen, Nyon and Leipzig international Film Festivals. He lectures in universities and film academies in Germany and abroad. He has also edited and translated works by Eisenstein and Tarkovsky. He is a member of the consultative council of the Eisenstein Centre for film and cultural research in Moscow, "Kinovedcheskie zapiski" of the European Film Academy, FIPRESCI and Interfilm. In 2007 he was awarded the "Pushkin-medal" by order of the President of the Russian Federation.
