Robert Porter
Robert Porter taught Russian Language and Literature at the University of Bristol for 25 years, eventually being promoted to a Personal Chair there. From 1999 until 2005 he was Professor of Slavonic Studies at the University of Glasgow. His monographs on Russian Literature include Four Contemporary Russian Writers (1989) and Russia's Alternative Prose (1994). His translations include shorter works by several modern Russian writers and two books by Evgenii Popov: The Soul of a Patriot (1994) and Merry-Making in Old Russia (1996). He is married, has two daughters and lives in Bristol.
